The Bench Reserve

Gray streamer fly with barred feather cheeks and a black overwing resting on dark walnut.

The Bench Reserve presents truly specialized flies selected by the House for their purpose, design, exceptional construction, and use of uncommon or rare materials.

Nothing enters the Reserve because it is merely new, attractive, or available. Each fly must be complete, inspected, meet the Fly Standard, belong within the finest body of Benchworks work, and be worthy of truthful presentation and permanent record.

Rare materials alone do not earn a place in the Reserve. Every material must serve the fly, and every specialized operation must have a reason.

Alongside selected Reserve work, the House Selection of Fine Warmwater Flies offers established House patterns in predetermined sets. These flies follow the same standards for function, proportion, durability, workmanship, inspection, and presentation. They use proven designs and more readily available materials, but they are not individually commissioned or customized.

The distinction is found in specialization, material rarity, construction, individualization, and presentation, not in whether one fly receives more care than another.

Selected Work from the Bench Reserve represents the most specialized completed work currently open for placement.

Each fly is presented only after construction, inspection, photography, and its House record are complete. Its individual record explains the purpose, principal materials, hook, dimensions, design considerations, and provenance appropriate to the work.

Reserve availability is occasional because the work must earn its place. No release schedule, quantity promise, or manufactured scarcity governs the selection.

Those interested in a particular work may inquire privately. An inquiry does not guarantee placement.

The House Selection of Fine Warmwater Flies presents established Benchworks patterns in predetermined sets for anglers who want properly designed, carefully constructed flies without commissioning individually customized work.

Each set is established by the House. Pattern selection, colors, materials, hooks, sizes, quantities, and presentation are determined according to the set’s intended fishing purpose.

House Selection flies use proven designs and more readily available materials, but they follow the same Fly Standard governing function, proportion, durability, workmanship, inspection, and presentation.

They are not lesser work. They are a different expression of the House: practical, refined, and built for serious fishing.
